【摘要】:Thispracticeprovidesacontrolledcorrosiveenvironmentwhichhasbeenutilizedtoproducerelativecorrosionresistanceinformationforspecimensofmetalsandcoatedmetalsexposedinagiventestchamber.Predictionofperformanceinnaturalenvironmentshasseldombeencorrelatedwithsaltsprayresultswhenusedasstandalonedata.Correlationandextrapolationofcorrosionperformancebasedonexposuretothetestenvironmentprovidedbythispracticearenotalwayspredictable.Correlationandextrapolationshouldbeconsideredonlyincaseswhereappropriatecorroboratinglong-termatmosphericexposureshavebeenconducted.Thereproducibilityofresultsinthesaltsprayexposureishighlydependentonthetypeofspecimenstestedandtheevaluationcriteriaselected,aswellasthecontroloftheoperatingvariables.Inanytestingprogram,sufficientreplicatesshouldbeincludedtoestablishthevariabilityoftheresults.Variabilityhasbeenobservedwhensimilarspecimensaretestedindifferentfogchamberseventhoughthetestingconditionsarenominallysimilarandwithintherangesspecifiedinthispractice.1.1Thispracticecoverstheapparatus,procedure,andconditionsrequiredtocreateandmaintainthesaltspray(fog)testenvironment.SuitableapparatuswhichmaybeusedisdescribedinAppendixX1.1.2Thispracticedoesnotprescribethetypeoftestspecimenorexposureperiodstobeusedforaspecificproduct,northeinterpretationtobegiventotheresults.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
